Preserving railroad history for future generations

Photo shows damage when chain was removed. Patina indicates it was done many years ago. Lovk is in working condition.

This lock is smaller than most L&N locks and has flush rivets, unlike other Speckmann locks that have raised rivets. The stamping on the shackle is very hard to read and appears to only have one “N” at the end of Speckmann. All others I have seen have two “Ns.” The lock doesn’t open with any of my L&N keys. I suspect the lock is damaged internally, and the post for the key barrel looks bent.

Barrel is partially crushed and has a small split at the end.

Key cover spring broken

SPC RR C KEY (South Pacific Coast CAR) serif letters on brass tapered barrel single ring key manufactured by Ritchie & Sons. This early and rare offering shows light use with deeply stamped letters and ready to display.
