Notes
The Denver and Rio Grande Railway was incorporated on October 27, 1870 as a narrow gauge railroad originally with service between Denver, Colorado and Ogden, Utah.
This D&RG RR Dayton Mfg. lock is c. 1890’s, as Dayton acquired Post & Co. in 1892. This particular lock design originated as a Post & Co. product, as later the design was adopted by Dayton, then by Slaymaker.
The stamped “D&RG Ry” Post & Co. lock is one of the original locks used by the D&RG in the 1870’s. There are maybe less than 10 stamped Post “D&RG Ry” locks known. There is a report that there is one known example of a Post lock stamped “D&RG RR.”
This “D&RG RR” Dayton lock is the 2nd example that has surfaced so far.
